It’s Valentine’s Day weekend and love is in the air. I have never been one of those people who go crazy over Valentine’s and I will admit to really hating this holiday at several points in my life. Now that I have a husband and daughter to share this day with it does make it a bit more exciting and we will celebrate the day in a small way. I will have some chocolate and wine with my mister while my mini me gets a new book and a magnetic play book. I would much rather go out to dinner any other night besides Valentine’s day and instead stay at home to spend a quiet evening with the two people I love the most. Here are five Valentine(ish) things to share for this weeks five on Friday. Thank you April, Christina, Natasha, and Darci for hosting this link up.
1. We are heading to our mountain house this weekend to spend a quiet and relaxing weekend. It’s going to be freezing with a high of 11 on Sunday so there will be lots of time spent by the fire reading and watching TV. Oh and still entertaining a toddler. Jason and I are enjoying a nice Valentine’s dinner at the cabin once we get Scottie to bed. We have a super tasty menu planned consisting of steaks, lobster mac and cheese and green beans. I am planning on picking up some cupcakes from Gigi’s before we go to have for dessert.
2. Scottie and I are spending this morning with some friends for a Valentine’s playdate. I put together this trail mix for Scottie to give to all her friends.
In the mix is:
4 cups miniature pretzels
4 cups Kashi Heart to Heart Cereal
1 box Strawberry Banana Teddy Grahams
2 cups dried cranberries
2 cups yogurt covered raisins
3. If you’re looking for a special breakfast to make your valentine this weekend I recommend these Low fat Chocolate Chip Buttermilk Scones. These scones are an ideal breakfast item with the chocolate chips providing just a hint of sweetness, without the guilt of having dessert for breakfast. Who can resist freshly baked buttermilk scones with melted chocolate scattered throughout. Not me.
4. If you’re still looking for a dessert to make for your loved ones tomorrow here are two options for you. One is healthy and the other one is just ridiculously good and worth the splurge.
