Ahi Tuna Salad with Creamy Basil Lime Dressing

Last week Jason and I celebrated our two-year wedding anniversary. We went out for a nice dinner last weekend where we celebrated with good food and drinks. It was also our first night out by ourselves since Scottie was born so I was slightly giddy with excitement to get out of yoga pants and dress up a bit for my groom. Even though we technically celebrated the weekend prior when Tuesday arrived I still wanted to acknowledge our anniversary with a nice dinner at home. I had three things in mind when planning our menu: healthy, simple and elegant, which is how this salad came about.


This Ai Tuna salad is light and refreshing making it the perfect summertime meal. Ahi is the Hawaiian word for two species of tuna: yellowfin tuna and bigeye tuna. Yellowfin tuna is best served as sashimi (raw) or seared rare. Be sure to purchase a good quality ahi tuna (sashimi grade) for this salad. In addition to the tuna, pepper, avocado and edamame  are included to add healthy fats, protein and vegetables.

Now let’s take a minute to talk about the basil lime dressing. I saw this recipe on Pinterest but chose to put some of my fresh basil to use and substituted it for the cilantro. The fresh flavors from the dressing took this salad to a whole new level. It’s full of flavor and not only a perfect topping to any summer salad but it makes a great addition to sandwiches and wraps as well. I made enough so that I would have some leftover to enjoy throughout the week. Not only is it tasty but it’s easy to make and a much healthier option from other creamy dressings.

For your salad you will need the following ingredients. Use as much or as little as you want depending on how many salads you are preparing. For two people I ordered a pound of tuna which was plenty!
– Ahi Tuna Fillets (Sashimi grade)
– Edamame
– Avocado
– Red Pepper

Creamy Basil Lime Dressing:


– 1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil
– 1/2 cup chobani 0% plain Greek yogurt
– 1 tablespoon lime juice
– 2 garlic cloves, minced
– 1 tablespoon white vinegar
– 1 bunch fresh basil
– 1 teaspoon sea salt

– Place all ingredients in a food processor or blender and puree until smooth.
