Goodness it’s been a hot minute since I last posted. We’ve been busy growing our family and we are now officially a party of 5. We left for China on March 21st to bring home our daughter, Mae, and 2 1/2 weeks later returned to the most beautiful welcome home celebration at the airport. We’ve been home a few weeks now and while we are over the jet lag we’re still trying to adjust to our new normal. Whatever that even means.
As for Mae, she’s beautiful, funny, brave, incredibly loving and has a smile that will melt your heart into a giant puddle. She was made for us, and us for her, and all our hearts are forever changed since she came along.
Our time in China dragged at moments and flew by at other times. As I mentioned we left in the early morning hours of March 21st and arrived back in Charlotte two weeks later on the morning of April 6th. We took our two kids with us on the trip, and while not easy, it was the best decision for our family. The time we had as a family was invaluable and we believe it helped both Mae and our biological kids attach quicker. And what an experience it was for all of us.
We visited a total of 3 cities while in China, took 6 flights over the course of two weeks and by the end we had mastered 4 large suitcases, 5 carry-on bags, three kids and a stroller through it all. Having all of us experience Mae’s birth country together was truly amazing and the memories we made will forever be etched in my heart. I thought my little guy would have the hardest time being away from home, but he’s the one still asking when we get to go back to the hotels.
I wanted to pop in and give you a quick update with everything going on. I’d like to say I’ll be back posting on the regular now, but the truth is I’m trying to figure out how this little old blog fits into my life right now. I love the community, sharing recipes, and simply having this space for me but it’s also a lot to fit in, in my already full day. I could be back Friday to share some of my favorites, or next week to give you a long overdue but much needed recipe, or in a few weeks when I find a quite moment again.
I’ve mentioned to friends recently I’m trying to find some balance in my day, but then suddenly the truth jumped out at me during my devotional this week. In Jennie Allen’s book, Made For This she writes “ what you had been calling balance for your family is really a determined effort to control your life at all costs. This new life that feels semi-chaotic is likely a symptom of a couple attempting to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit.”
Wow! So with that I’m embracing the chaotic and living this beautiful life God has called me to.
